PETA Protester Confronts Pharrell Williams During Film Premiere

Image
A protester from the organization, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), disrupted a speech being given by Pharrell Williams at a Biopic Premiere in Toronto.  She rushed the stage with a white sign in her hand that read:  Pharrell: Stop Supporting Killing Animals for Fashion.  Pharrell was in Toronto to support his LEGO biopic entitled, Piece by Piece.   The protester directed a number of statements towards Pharrell and the audience concerning his role as men's creative director at Louis Vuitton.   "Your Louis Vuitton collection … Pharrell’s collection is made from their blood,” the protester shouted to the audience. “Pharrell stop torturing animals! Ostriches are being hung upside down, electrocuted with their necks slit.”   PETA is petitioning Louis Vuitton to stop abusing animals and using their bodily materials for the purpose of fashion creation.  During the protest, Pharrell made a pause during his speech and outrightly agreed with the protester.  "Ok.

Stony Brook University Now a Top 40 Institution and other Highlights

Image
Congratulations to my Alma Mater who is now a member of the Top 40 universities in the USA. Stony Brook University has inched up quite a bit and now holds the 39th spot on the QS World University Rankings list.   I’m so proud of my Alma Mater who's been steadily rising up the ranks hanging right there in the radar of the top universities in the USofA.  Stony Brook also has the #1 spot for public universities in New York and is number 13 on the list of Best Public Universities in the US. I’m also proud to announce that we have a new young Seawolf on our hands.  Congratulations to my little brother who has just graduated from a private school here in NYC.   He was offered scholarships to study at the inaugural Roc Nation School of Music at Long Island University and the electrical engineering program at Syracuse University.  He’s chosen to make Stony Brook home for the next four years and boy did he make a great decision by becoming a newly proclaimed Seawolf!  I can’t tell you how e

Product Review: Glow Recipe

Image
It’s Asian American month here in the states and I thought it would be a perfect time to review skin care brand, Glow Recipe.  Glow Recipe was founded in 2014 by Korean American sisters, Christine Chang and Sara Lee. The sisters desired to merge K-Beauty with the fruit based ingredients.  The skincare brand is fruit themed and every product has a specific fruit, which is at the heart of the ingredient list.  The fruits that are currently featured in Glow Recipe’s products include avocado, watermelon, papaya, pineapple, banana and blueberry.   It’s actually interesting how I became familiar with the brand. I came across Glow Recipe while in the Sephora location on Madison Ave.  I was looking for a serum and when I secured the one I wanted from my favorite brand, Caudalie, I quickly made my way to the line and there were a few bottles of Glow Recipe’s watermelon toner right by the line.  Very smart idea there Sephora! This is a great way to get customers to learn about new products or br

Eleven Madison Park Restaurant Switches to All Vegan Menu

Image
The owner of Eleven Madison Park here in NYC announced that the restaurant will reopen as a plant based vegan restaurant.  The restaurant, which once served main course menu items such as foie gras, dry aged veal, suckling pig confit and honey lavender duck, is scrapping ALL of that and creating a completely meatless menu.   Chef Daniel Humm, owner of the three Michelin star restaurant, has kept his 3 Michelin stars even though the restaurant is making a switch to an all vegan menu. Who said that vegan and vegetarian restaurants can’t have the honor of being Michelin rated? There are less than two handfuls of Michelin starred vegetarian restaurants around the world and Eleven Madison Park is now one.   However, this number may rise as more restaurants begin to see the vision for the future.  Michelin guides awarded Eleven Madison Park another three star rating after Chef Humm made the announcement. Michelin guide, Gwendalle Poullene expressed that the restaurant is embarking on an exci

Could this be Why Bill and Melinda Gates are Divorcing?

Image
Bill and Melinda Gates made a shocking announcement today which confirmed their intention to divorce. Marriage and relationships are not a regular topic in the Green News Guide but we’re talking about it today!   I’m so bewildered and shocked because I really admired Bill and Melinda’s partnership.  Recently, I answered a question on a social media site that I frequent and somehow ventured into talking about “celebrities” who I thought were power couples.  Bill and Melinda were number two on that list.   Who would have ever seen this coming?! Bill married Melinda when he was 37 years old after dating for six years. Melinda spoke briefly about the couple’s journey to marriage in a Netflix documentary called, “ Inside Bill’s Brain ,” Melinda mentioned that she had found Bill in his bedroom with a whiteboard listing out the pros and cons of getting married.  Haha! Bill seems to be an organizer of the first order so it shouldn’t be surprising that he operated this way when it came to makin

Ari Fletcher is hoping to lose 10 pounds and announced on her instagram live, her intent to stop eating meat and drinking alcohol.  She mentioned that she was going to be eating Beyond Meat and also stated that she will still have salmon and shrimp so it’s likely that she is trying to adhere to a vegetarian and pescatarian diet.   Vegan and Vegetarian for Weight Loss Can individuals lose weight when embarking on a vegetarian or vegan diet.  A person can experience significant weight loss on a balanced healthy vegan or vegetarian diet.  Keep in mind that vegans and vegetarians do not eat meat (pork, chicken, beef, poultry, goat, etc.)  Vegans take it a step further and eliminate eggs and dairy from the diet. Stopping By Amazon Go NYC

Image
Amazon Go has seven locations around Manhattan and they are all convenience stores.  I visited the 42nd street location to better familiarize myself with the "GO" experience.  The location was clean and there weren't many people inside except for a worker or two.  There were a variety of sandwiches, snacks, soups, salads, drinks and etc.  Being a born New Yorker, I can give my honest opinion on what I think of this "convenience store." It's definitely not like your traditional bodega or corner store which tend to be stocked with more than just food.  Bodegas or convenience stores have everything from skincare to home essentials to pet food.   Amazon Go is a very scaled down bodega with high technology that allows for a seamless, quick meal shopping experience. That is--if cold cuts are your thing!  And yes, I said quick meal, meaning grab a bahn mi sandwich and make a dash back to the office or wherever you're headed to, as I did not see any seating ins

Amazon Go Heads to the UK

Image
Amazon has opened the world’s most advanced grocery store in Ealing, London this week. The grocery store is the first of its kind with no physical cashiers or checkout process. It is literally “walk out the store” grocery shopping. No wallets or cash are necessary. What lines ??? It’s grab and go! It’s the right grocery store for the folks who have little patience. Once inside the store, the shopper will only need a smartphone with an Amazon Go app installed. When the user signs into their Amazon account and scans it upon entry, they will be able to shop freely inside. Amazon uses sensor fusion technology to track the moves of customers and computer vision and algorithms to help with payment and its contactless checkout experience. No matter what a customer picks up in the store, the sensors are all around. It’s even on the grocery store’s ceilings. The app will add the item to the shopper’s “electronic cart” when the item is picked up in the store. If a shopper puts an item back,
