Image
A protester from the organization, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), disrupted a speech being given by Pharrell Williams at a Biopic Premiere in Toronto.  She rushed the stage with a white sign in her hand that read:  Pharrell: Stop Supporting Killing Animals for Fashion.  Pharrell was in Toronto to support his LEGO biopic entitled, Piece by Piece.   The protester directed a number of statements towards Pharrell and the audience concerning his role as men's creative director at Louis Vuitton.   "Your Louis Vuitton collection … Pharrell’s collection is made from their blood,” the protester shouted to the audience. “Pharrell stop torturing animals! Ostriches are being hung upside down, electrocuted with their necks slit.”   PETA is petitioning Louis Vuitton to stop abusing animals and using their bodily materials for the purpose of fashion creation.  During the protest, Pharrell made a pause during his speech and outrightly agreed with the protester.  "Ok.

Meeting Maya Angelou

Image
On the eve of Juneteenth, I couldn’t help but to remember Dr. Maya Angelou. The world lost a magnanimous and inspirational poet and writer six years ago. The impact of her loss is still felt today. Maya Angelou was a great source of inspiration to me and many others around the world. As a young teen, I was often called upon to provide short speeches or asked to write poems for local and regional church events. I was probably around 11 or 12 when I recited my first poem of Dr. Angelou’s. It was called “Phenomenal Woman.” I remember one person used to refer to me as a little Maya Angelou. it’s real funny to even think about now! Hahha! Little did she know that I would go on to actually meet the late great Maya Angelou. Her work became my favorite literature to read growing up and I often found myself indulging in her essays and autobiographies. She was a stoic, well-spoken and inspirational poet and author but she had endured so much in her lifetime and you would’ve never known it

Juneteenth has been celebrated for over 150 years. Though it's been celebrated for so long, many Americans don't have a clue what Juneteenth is. This year, the holiday is gaining momentum and recognition as a result of widespread protests as well as a shift towards focusing on systemic racism. Some citizens are calling for Juneteenth to be recognized as a national holiday. New York mayor Bill Deblasio has declared Juneteenth a holiday in the state of New York beginning in 2021. Companies like Nike and Twitter have declared Juneteenth a paid holiday. One tradition of Juneteeth entails the drinking of strawberry soda. The tradition is symbolic in nature. Why the COVID-19 Pandemic was a Blessing in Disguise

Image
During the coronavirus outbreak when all the cases had reached a peak and everyone was in a frantic state, I knew that the lockdown was only going to last but for so long. During this time, I had been telling close family members that June was going to be the month that the virus would begin a downward descend and life would regain a sense of normalcy after being in total lockdown. Some of them were apprehensive and disbelieving and some had hopes that I would be right. It was declared in the Green News Guide that Coronavirus was an actual pandemic in February when WHO and the CDC blindly refused to admit that it was. Can you believe that? WHO and the CDC actually denied that Covid-19 was a pandemic after it had been spreading so quickly throughout Europe and China At this time there were only 53 cases in the USA. But did it really matter how few cases there were? A pandemic is a pandemic. How could a virus rise from 53 U.S. cases on Feb 25th to a recorded 1.8 million U.S. cases on J
