A study recently completed by EWG (Environmental Working Group) found alarming levels of glyphosate on breakfast cereals and other foods from companies such as General Mills and Gerber. Glyphosate is a weedkiller that is produced by Bayer-Monsanto. Many of the cereals found to have troubling levels of weedkiller on them are made by food manufacturer, General Mills. Popular cereals such as Cheerios and Honey nut Cheerios had the highest amounts of glyphosate. Over twenty oat based cereals and snack products were tested and almost all contained levels higher than EWG’s health and safety benchmark. EWG’s safety benchmark is 160 ppb (parts per billion). Anything above this number is considered to be toxic and dangerous if consumed. Oxtail is one of the more popular dishes of Jamaican cuisine. It was one of my favorite dishes as a child. It is a rich, robust, meaty and flavorful dish.
