5 Natural Ingredients For Longevity

Image
The path of aging can be viewed as a bothersome, inevitable part of life to some.  Those invested in the journey  often look to various methods of biohacking as a way to lengthen what can be considered a short life  span.  The average life  expectancy for women is 80 years old and 74 years old for men.  Living to 100  years old may seem inconceivable but the reality is that there are individuals living past 100 years old.   According to the Pew Research Center, our global world is home to 722,000 centenarians most of whom  live in Asian countries such as Japan and China (Schaeffer, 2024).   The number of centenarians currently living is expected to quadruple  over the next 30 years. Will people begin to live past 200 and 300 years old in the near future? As scientific  discoveries continue to be made and longevity focused breakthroughs are attained, humans will live longer and more intelligently.   What are ...

How I Veganized Mpougatsa (Bougatsa)

Image
Mpougatsa is a Greek breakfast pastry pie that is very popular in Greece. I had the chance to make Mboutgatsa and it was very delicious. It was recommended to me by a friend earlier this year. From what I gleaned, the pastry is best enjoyed at breakfast or as an afternoon snack. Mboutgatsa reminds me of cornmeal porridge. If you could imagine porridge as a pie then you've got a good idea about what it tastes like. It consists of a few staple ingredients like semolina, butter and eggs. I decided to create a vegan version for those of you who don't desire milk and eggs. Read on for the recipe. Ingredients: (20-25) sheets of phyllo dough (3) cups oat milk [1/2] cup sugar [1/2] cup semolina (2) Follow your heart vegan egg--will need [10] tbsp water for the vegan eggs 3 tsp vanilla extract 4.5 tbsp of melted earth balance butter Utensils Needed Will require 1 glass 9.5" pie dish Paper towel (to clean up any spills) 1 medium or large pot 1 whisk (for stirring) 1 wooden spoo...

New York Goes a Little Green with Plastic Bag Ban

Image
Any one familiar with bodegas and grocery stores in New York knows about our little grocery bag problem! Okay, that’s an underestimation because it has become a huge problem for the state, especially when litter is taken into account. New York residents use 23 billion plastic bags on an annual basis, greatly contributing to environmental issues. New York is becoming the second state to issue a statewide ban on single use plastic bags. This is a monumental legislation for the state which is being agreed upon by lawmakers within Senate. California was the first state to ban plastic bags in 2014, allowing businesses to charge 10 cents for reusable and paper bags. Governor Cuomo has set a goal to reduce emissions from our state’s generation of electricity and also desires to see a carbon free economy. He announced his Green New Deal in January of this year. Under this deal, it is proposed that New York will be 100 percent carbon neutral by 2040, ultimately eliminating the state’s enti...

Elon Musk unveiled the Tesla Model Y, an electric SUV, at the Tesla design studio on Thursday, March 14th. The Model Y has a few marked features of the Model 3. It is similar in texture to the Model 3 with its falcon wing doors and design. The most important feature to note about Model Y is its larger interior space with the potential to be a seven seater. Model Y will be the perfect vehicle for the environmentally conscious parents with a small brood. Running on battery power, Tesla’s Model Y will go the distance of 239 miles. Luxury features in the Model Y include a panoramic glass roof similar to its predecessor. At design studio Musk gives us quite the picture stating, “It just feels like you can see the sky.” The Model Y begins at $39000 for base version and can inch upwards of $60000 after selecting additional features. The model Y’s release date will be in the fall of 2020. Now with over 1400 supercharging stations worldwide, Tesla cars are a very cost effective and green choic...

I tried Native Deodorant and It Gave me A Rash….Womp Womp!!

Image
I am sounding off on a natural deodorant brand that hit the scene in 2017. I learned about Native through a vlogging family that I watch every so often. If you know me, then you know I am a walking deodorant dictionary for natural and chemical free deodorants. You name them, I have probably tried them! Most natural deodorants are not compatible with my skin. Reading tons of reviews through the years and trying a full shopping cart’s worth of deodorants through the years, I’ve also found this to be true for other people. In my experience, quite a bit of natural deodorants are prone to causing rashes. Native is a natural body care brand that first began selling deodorants in 2017. They’ve expanded to body washes, toothpaste and other products. Most individuals who decide to make the switch over to natural deodorants due so to avoid body hazardous agent: aluminum. It’s really tough to find good aluminum free deodorants so I was ecstatic to learn about Native. What also sold the deodo...
