5 Natural Ingredients For Longevity

Image
The path of aging can be viewed as a bothersome, inevitable part of life to some.  Those invested in the journey  often look to various methods of biohacking as a way to lengthen what can be considered a short life  span.  The average life  expectancy for women is 80 years old and 74 years old for men.  Living to 100  years old may seem inconceivable but the reality is that there are individuals living past 100 years old.   According to the Pew Research Center, our global world is home to 722,000 centenarians most of whom  live in Asian countries such as Japan and China (Schaeffer, 2024).   The number of centenarians currently living is expected to quadruple  over the next 30 years. Will people begin to live past 200 and 300 years old in the near future? As scientific  discoveries continue to be made and longevity focused breakthroughs are attained, humans will live longer and more intelligently.   What are ...

Butter Made from Thin Air and Eggs Made from Plants

Image
There's a green company in town that is creating something out of nothing.  That something is delightfully rich butter.  This butter is vegan and made from thin air.  Yes--you heard that right.  The butter is made from air; utilizing real fat and without any impact to the environment.  Savor is the company behind this new and revolutionary fat making process.  To make the butter or fat, a carbon source is heated with hydrogen and is later mixed with oxygen from the air. Photo by Savor Savor was founded by Kathleen Alexander in San Jose, California. Their mission is to commercially produce agriculture free, healthy fats in a way that doesn't negatively affect the environment. The fats are produced without dangerous chemicals and toxins.  Butter is the first type of food that Savor has created but company has plans to expand and begin producing these fats for other foods such as ice cream, milk, cheese and meat.  These foods will all be made without...

Cadillac recently introduced the Sollei , a green concept vehicle which incorporates bio-based materials.  The Cadillac Sollei is an electric luxurious convertible which features interiors made from Fine Mycelium™ by MycoWorks.  The luxury biobased material was grown from mushroom roots.   The material was incorporated into the wireless charging pad, interior door map pockets and behind the screen.   The interior décor is wrapped in unstained wood veneers while the windshields are framed in brushed aluminum.  The Sollei boasts a luxury Manila cream finish, a pale creamy yellow hue that was used in 1957 and 1958 models. 8 Foods with the Most Hidden Plastic

Image
Plastic is one of the most overused materials on Earth.  It is used for packaging, wraps, bottles, clothing, and various other goods.  Plastic based products are derived from non-renewable resources that are polluting the earth on a grand scale.  The fashion industry uses approximately 340 million barrels of oil to produce synthetic plastic based fibers such as nylon, polyester and acrylic.  Plastic continues to contribute to ocean pollution as it is transported through sewage treatments.  Sewage treatments or wastewater are dumped into rivers and oceans where wildlife soak up toxic micro and nano plastics. Nanoplastics in  Food Human beings ingest nano and micro plastic particles through the foods they consume. Plastics shed in a manner similar to skin and a person will not be able to tell if a food has high concentrations of microplastics in it.  Certain fruits, vegetables and proteins have been tested and found to have the highest concentrations of ...

Should Elon Musk Sit Down With Bill Gates to Discuss Climate?

Image
The beef soup between Bill Gates and Elon Musk doesn't seem to be simmering down any time soon!  The two had a small online spat during the pandemic in 2020 but it seems that engine has revved up again recently when Bill Gates sat down with Bloomberg to discuss his climate tech investments and solutions.  These two men have tremendous influence, intelligence and resources that, when combined in partnership, could do so much good for the world.  The world will never know why the two businessmen choose to keep a distance.  It's actually a bit pitiful and kind of like watching a father and son throw digs at the other every so often.  They probably could learn a fair amount of knowledge from each other if they were to put their small differences aside. There are indicators that lead me to believe that the two would get along IRL if they were both willing to clear a time in their schedules, plan a meeting and have a serious discussion about matters that are near and...

Brave Neurosurgeon Tells Why he Left Western Medicine

Image
The field of medicine has evolved since its earliest and historical days when Hippocrates sought out a new system to explain and understand illnesses.  During those days, the main goal was to diagnose an individual's problem and provide a way to restore balance among the humors using logic and philosophy. Modernized western medicine has since become solely reliant on scientific methods and pathologic anatomy to diagnose and treat diseases (Mantri, 2008).  The original Hippocratic school of thought placed emphasis on an integrative mind-body-personality ideology or philosophy (Mantri, 2008).  The system of Western medicine has led to some ethical problems that can affect the therapeutic relationship.  Some of these problems include the depersonalization of a patient and the removal of the patient as equal partners in their care.   Calls for the return of Western medicine to its original Hippocratic roots have been made by various individuals within the field...

All the Green Fashion from this Year's Met Gala

Image
The Met Gala took place on May 6th at the Metropolitan Museum of Art here in New York.  Many believed that this year’s gala had a double theme.  “ Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion ” and “ The Garden of Time ” were the two themes that celebrities on the red carpet dressed for.  Vogue editor at large, Anna Wintour, actually issued an apology over the confusion regarding the themes.  The new exhibit that was being highlighted is called “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” and the dress code for the 2024 Met Gala was “The Garden of Time.”  Quite a few celebrities dressed for what they believed was a “Sleeping Beauty” theme. It appears though that the actual dress code was "The Garden of Time."  Some managed to incorporate both themes and this was pretty cool to see. Green Fashion was out and in full effect on this year’s green carpet.  There were a number of looks that incorporated natural materials such as glass, sand, wood as well as flora and ...

Happy Earth Day! Say Hi to Bruce...

Image
My new plant could not have come on a better day! Happy Earth Day folks!!!  Say hello to Bruce, the newest plant baby in my green scene.  Bruce is a Pachira Aquatica (Guiana Chestnut) plant in the Malvaceae family.  This Pachira Aquatica is in perfect health and is so tall (over three feet). I did not think that it was going to be this big and I’m so ecstatic to see it.  The number one aspect that I love about Pachira Aquatica is its braided trunk because well—it reminds me of hair! It’s pretty cool to see a braid in plant form.  Not only that, I love the idea of growing mini tree indoors.  Pachira Aquatica is native to the tropical wetlands of South and Central America.  I’ve already been eyeing a sister for Bruce that will grow well with it. It is the Dracaena Sanderiana which is native to the Asparagaceae family. Pachira Aquatica Needs If you’re on the fence about purchasing a Pachira Aquatica plant, just go for it. It requires positioning in indire...
