FDA Bans First FD&C Dye! Which Will be Next?

Image
The FDA has moved to finally ban Red Dye No. 3 from use in food and drugs in America.  Red Dye No. 3 was first determined to be a cancer causing color additive almost 30 years ago.  Studies conducted using labs rats found that they became inflicted with the disease after consuming large amounts of Red dye No. 3.  Thirty years ago, the FDA officially banned Red Dye No. 3 from use in cosmetics but left the door open for it to be used as a color additive in food and prescription drugs.  By January 2027, the FDA has ordered that Red Dye No 3 must be removed from all food in the USA and by 2028--from all drugs. Food Manufacturers Shiver in their Boots Red Dye No. 3 has mostly been used in baked goods, sweets and candies.  It is used by prominent candy manufacturers such as Mars Inc (Skittles) and Just Born Quality Confections (Peeps).  Food Manufacturing giants such as Con Agra, McCormick, Heinz, General Mills and Pepsi Co will all have to find alternatives for ...

Fenty Sidestick Is it All that?

Image
The Fenty Side Stick is a 3 in 1 edge styling tool.  It was mentioned in a comprehensive review  of Rihanna's hair line, however, I hadn't yet purchased it.  I wanted to briefly compare The Side Stick to the type of edge brushes that are found in your average beauty store.  The Side Stick arrived in a light orange box with the signature Fenty packaging and logo. On the back of the box, is a photo of the Side Stick.  The photo on the back of the packaging is almost the same length as the Side Stick so the user can get a sense of the actual length of the product.  When it is taken out of the package, the end piece needed to be snapped on. It's a nice rose chrome colored tail which makes for precise parting and creation of swooped styles.  If any of you ladies love your 90s Aaliyah style swooped bangs, the Side Stick is going to get you right every time! It has a duo brush and comb head instead of being at opposite ends like an average edge brush and com...

Fenty Hair Line Full Product Review

Image
When I received an email from Fenty Beauty that Rihanna was dropping a hair line, I was super stoked and ready. Like literally jumping up and down. That's how much I love the Fenty Beauty brand.  Listen, Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin have GREAT products! When Fenty Beauty dropped several years ago, I can remember the advertising so well.  It offered and showcased a huge variety of foundation shades and proved itself to be an inclusive line with high performing, quality and clean products. Everybody--- and I mean everybody--- was talking about that drop!  It's literally set the blueprint for other cosmetic companies which have tried to copy and also carry more shades for darker skin tones.  Though I've used Fenty Beauty/Skin several times over the last several years, I'd say my current fave from Fenty Beauty is the lip balm. It's a luxurious lip balm with a unique shape that makes application so fun! I purchased that twice already and just lost the last one. Other repe...

Green News Guide Clean, Organic & Natural Perfumes & Colognes: A List of Brands and Companies

It’s Earth month folks! Happy Earth Month! This is one of the best months of the year where we spend most of our time giving back to our earth.  It can be difficult finding 100% natural perfume companies and fragrances.  After coming across a few articles over the years about natural or clean fragrance companies, the list is usually very short and there are only less than a handful that are spoken of.  The truth is that there aren’t that many that are out there.  Many of them are located overseas where standards and protocols for products designated for human consumption or usage are much more stringent and stricter.    Green News Guide has spent some time identifying natural, clean and sustainable fragrance companies in the USA and abroad.  I've compiled close to seventy natural or clean fragrance companies.  Many of these fragrance companies are committed to policies or missions that take into consideration the health of our planet.  I'm pr...

Product Review: Glow Recipe

Image
It’s Asian American month here in the states and I thought it would be a perfect time to review skin care brand, Glow Recipe.  Glow Recipe was founded in 2014 by Korean American sisters, Christine Chang and Sara Lee. The sisters desired to merge K-Beauty with the fruit based ingredients.  The skincare brand is fruit themed and every product has a specific fruit, which is at the heart of the ingredient list.  The fruits that are currently featured in Glow Recipe’s products include avocado, watermelon, papaya, pineapple, banana and blueberry.   It’s actually interesting how I became familiar with the brand. I came across Glow Recipe while in the Sephora location on Madison Ave.  I was looking for a serum and when I secured the one I wanted from my favorite brand, Caudalie, I quickly made my way to the line and there were a few bottles of Glow Recipe’s watermelon toner right by the line.  Very smart idea there Sephora! This is a g...
