FDA Bans First FD&C Dye! Which Will be Next?

The FDA has moved to finally ban Red Dye No. 3 from use in food and drugs in America.  Red Dye No. 3 was first determined to be a cancer causing color additive almost 30 years ago.  Studies conducted using labs rats found that they became inflicted with the disease after consuming large amounts of Red dye No. 3.  Thirty years ago, the FDA officially banned Red Dye No. 3 from use in cosmetics but left the door open for it to be used as a color additive in food and prescription drugs.  By January 2027, the FDA has ordered that Red Dye No 3 must be removed from all food in the USA and by 2028--from all drugs. Food Manufacturers Shiver in their Boots Red Dye No. 3 has mostly been used in baked goods, sweets and candies.  It is used by prominent candy manufacturers such as Mars Inc (Skittles) and Just Born Quality Confections (Peeps).  Food Manufacturing giants such as Con Agra, McCormick, Heinz, General Mills and Pepsi Co will all have to find alternatives for ...

Fenty Sidestick Is it All that?

The Fenty Side Stick is a 3 in 1 edge styling tool.  It was mentioned in a comprehensive review of Rihanna's hair line, however, I hadn't yet purchased it.  I wanted to briefly compare The Side Stick to the type of edge brushes that are found in your average beauty store.  The Side Stick arrived in a light orange box with the signature Fenty packaging and logo.

On the back of the box, is a photo of the Side Stick.  The photo on the back of the packaging is almost the same length as the Side Stick so the user can get a sense of the actual length of the product.  When it is taken out of the package, the end piece needed to be snapped on. It's a nice rose chrome colored tail which makes for precise parting and creation of swooped styles.  If any of you ladies love your 90s Aaliyah style swooped bangs, the Side Stick is going to get you right every time! It has a duo brush and comb head instead of being at opposite ends like an average edge brush and comb styler. When comparing the brush heads of the regular edge brush and comb styler, it was clear that the Side Stick has a much stronger brush although they are both made from what appears to be the same material.  The Side Stick possesses an ergonomic design and has a thumb grip area unlike the average edge styler.

When completing styles that involve "laying edges," the Side Stick has a really good design and function. No need to flip it to the other end. You can just turn it at an angle to switch between comb or brush.  The tail end is fantastic because it really makes for creation of edges that are more detailed due to its pointed feature.  It's great that one can part hair in that area without having to reach for a separate utensil.

I tried it out in different ways.  Ways that I probably shouldn't have.  I used the combed end as a tension comb for flat ironing my hair.  Lol! Ooops, shouldn't have done that as there was a little melting action! The material of the Side Stick does seem to be made of a better quality plastic.  It's smoother than the regular edge styler and is said to be made from post consumer recycled materials.  The regular edge styler's material is very flimsy and well--cheap looking but it gets the job done as well.  The Side Stick does seem like it weighs the same as the regular edge tool but may be slightly heavier due to the tail end.  Not only is it a great tool for styling edges but it can also serve as a petite comb for bangs or even brows but both styler options do allow this.

Which beauty edge styler feels better in hand? Definitely the Side Stick! It's smoother, has a nice ergonomic thumb rest and feels a little more luxe.  I would like to see it made of another material like bamboo or wood.  The tail end is probably the best part about this cool little beauty tool!

The Side Stick retails for $18
