FDA Bans First FD&C Dye! Which Will be Next?

Image
The FDA has moved to finally ban Red Dye No. 3 from use in food and drugs in America.  Red Dye No. 3 was first determined to be a cancer causing color additive almost 30 years ago.  Studies conducted using labs rats found that they became inflicted with the disease after consuming large amounts of Red dye No. 3.  Thirty years ago, the FDA officially banned Red Dye No. 3 from use in cosmetics but left the door open for it to be used as a color additive in food and prescription drugs.  By January 2027, the FDA has ordered that Red Dye No 3 must be removed from all food in the USA and by 2028--from all drugs. Food Manufacturers Shiver in their Boots Red Dye No. 3 has mostly been used in baked goods, sweets and candies.  It is used by prominent candy manufacturers such as Mars Inc (Skittles) and Just Born Quality Confections (Peeps).  Food Manufacturing giants such as Con Agra, McCormick, Heinz, General Mills and Pepsi Co will all have to find alternatives for ...

Engineered Stone is Contributing to Record Numbers of Silicosis Cases

Image
Engineered stone is a form of composite material consisting of crushed quartz that is used for the purpose of countertop creation.  The crushed stones are held together by polymer resin and is largely made up of a chemical compound called silica.  Engineered stone emulates the look and feel of natural stone and it is usually selected because it is more affordable and requires less maintenance than natural stone.  The beauty of engineered stone comes at a price—that is—for the contractor responsible for its installation. More Environmentally Friendly or A Hazard to Human Health? Some individuals also opt for engineered stone because they believe it to be more environmentally friendly than natural stone but this couldn’t be further from the truth.  Workers who manufacture and install the artificial stone are developing serious and incurable lung disease.  The installation of engineered stone requires cutting, grounding, shaping and polishing.  During this pro...

The Cancer Causing Candy that You Must Stop Eating!

Image
They’re tiny, cute, fluffy and squishy and they usually come in an array of colors but don’t let the cute looks fool you! Nor should you savor that gooey, chewy bunny-shaped airy confection that you might like to eat around Easter time.  What candy could this possibly be...?? Peeps is a marshmallow candy manufactured by Just Born Quality Confections.  The company produces its colorful confections with FD&C dye no 3.  This particular FD&C dye produces pinks, purples, and reds and is also known as erythrosine.  Folks, if you’re still purchasing foods with FD&C dyes and artificial colors, it’s high time you think and stop.  There are a host of FD&C dyes that are quite harmful to the human body.  Many of these dyes are carcinogenic and can lead to cancer. Carcinogenic food dyes such as Red no. 3, Red no. 40, Yellow no. 5 and blue no. 1 are banned in Europe.  These artificial dyes are linked to behavioral problems in children with ADHD, alle...

Battle of the Prepared Meal Programs: FACTOR 75 vs. Cook Unity

Image
I’ve been trying popular meal kit and prepared meal programs so that you can make an informed decision about which is best for you!  The point is also to inform consumers about what their food will look like in reality as well as what they can expect when they join.  I came across an ad for Factor a few hours before I saw one for a similar company named Cook Unity.   I actually signed up with Factor75 first but I paused my first box after I visited Cook Unity’s website.  I’m glad that I did as I have another company to compare Factor75 to.   Factor75 isn’t like your Hello Fresh, Marley Spoon, Dinnerly and Green Chefs of the world.  Companies such as Factor and Cook Unity prepare the food and ship them to you already cooked. They sell individualized prepared meals and there is no cooking or food prep involved.  You select the meals that you desire, they’ll arrive to your door and voila…it’s heat and eat time! Now, I could sum this up in one se...
