The Queen on Climate Change: "'The time for Words has now moved to the time for action!"

Queen Elizabeth made a headlining address to individuals in attendance at the COP26 UN Climate Change Summit in Glasgow, Scotland.   The Queen spoke with a sense of urgency highlighting the importance of prioritizing the global climate change problem, essentially stating, “If we fail to cope with this challenge, all the other problems will pale into insignificance.”

The Queen, dressed symbolically in green and wore a triple strand delicate pearl necklace and a beautiful diamond and gemstone brooch given to her by her beloved husband, Prince Philip.  She remembered him in her speech and his photograph was seen right behind her.  She emphasized that Prince Philip was a great respecter of the environment who shared his love of the earth with his children and grandchildren.

"It is a source of great pride to me that the leading role my husband played in encouraging people to protect our fragile planet lives on through the work of our eldest son, Charles, and his eldest son, William," she stated. "I could not be more proud of them."

Queen Elizabeth was supposed to be physically present at the conference but she was admonished to stay rested for a few weeks and to only take up light duties.  As a result she gave her speech from her home at Windsor.

She made it a point to underscore the significance of nations working together collectively in order to successfully reach a positive outcome for action. She said:

"It is the hope of many that the legacy of this summit written in history books yet to be printed will describe you as the leaders who did not pass up the opportunity, and that you answered the call of those future generations," she continued. "That you left this conference as a community of nations with a determination, a desire and a plan to address the impact of climate change. And to recognize that the time for words has now moved to the time for action."

The Queen also mentioned that she’s gained inspiration from both young and old green leaders who continuously encourage everyone to do their part in helping to mitigate the crisis.
