Vegan, Dairy Free & Organic Baby Formulas Complete List

Parents play a significant role in helping their child understand the importance of health and instilling healthy eating habits in them.  As veganism and vegetarianism pervades society and people learn more about it, some may parents desire to raise their children as a vegan or vegetarian.  A child can be raised as a healthy vegan , vegetarian or flexitarian and grow into a heart healthy adult.  The key is understanding the nutrients that the child needs as a vegan or vegetarian and incorporating them into the diet (B12, Vitamin D, Vitamin A, Iodine).  Others such as calcium, zinc, B2 and iron can be added on an as needed basis. Of course, babies should be breast fed but some mothers cannot provide their babies with breast milk or don’t produce enough. Other mothers may simply choose to supplement breast-feeding with an infant formula or they may desire to switch their baby to formula after a period of breast-feeding.  Then there are allergic children—that is babies who may be allergic to milk or dairy products.  Some babies cannot digest proteins and have conditions such as protein maldigestion. These are all reasons why dairy free formulas can be a real necessity for some.

Most dairy free formulas fall into two categories; amino acid based, soy based and non soy based.  Some more aware mothers may desire soy free formulas if they're knowledgeable about the harmful effects of GMO soy.   It can be hard to find vegan or dairy free baby formulas so here’s a compilation list for those interested: individuals.
