It’s Asian American month here in the states and I thought it would be a perfect time to review skin care brand, Glow Recipe. Glow Recipe was founded in 2014 by Korean American sisters, Christine Chang and Sara Lee. The sisters desired to merge K-Beauty with the fruit based ingredients. The skincare brand is fruit themed and every product has a specific fruit, which is at the heart of the ingredient list. The fruits that are currently featured in Glow Recipe’s products include avocado, watermelon, papaya, pineapple, banana and blueberry.
It’s actually interesting how I became familiar with the brand. I came across Glow Recipe while in the Sephora location on Madison Ave. I was looking for a serum and when I secured the one I wanted from my favorite brand, Caudalie, I quickly made my way to the line and there were a few bottles of Glow Recipe’s watermelon toner right by the line. Very smart idea there Sephora! This is a great way to get customers to learn about new products or brands. Put them near the check out line while you wait your turn. The packaging was pink so of course, I gravitated to it and read the ingredients and I came to the conclusion that it would be a good product to try. The ingredient list was so clean. After using the watermelon toner on just the first try, I was completely wowed by it. I’ve never came across a toner that was so moisturizing. I mean moisturizing enough that you could probably skip using a moisturizer if you wanted to. It’s been a skin toner match made in heaven.
Looking for something to quench your face’s thirst for good? This is it. One of the primary ingredients in the watermelon toner is cactus extract. It did sting a little on the first few uses but that is a result of the dual exfoliating properties of the toner. It has undergone a clinical survey and 100% of participants agreed that their skin felt more hydrated after using it. The cactus extract gives the product a slightly slimy consistency. Don’t worry though because it’s very thin. I can’t put it into words how much I absolutely dig this product!
The next product from Glow Recipe’s line that I’ve jumped on is the Avocado Melt Retinol Sleeping Mask. This cream based mask packs a ton of moisture in a jar. The retinol used is a gentle form and suitable for the most sensitive skin care types. I really like the fact that this sleeping mask can be used in a variety of ways. This is the most exciting aspect of this mask!
The avocado mask can be left on overnight and washed in the morning. It can also be used as part of a mini facial by leaving on for 10 minutes and washing off. The last way the mask can be used is as a daily moisturizing treatment which is left on after the treatment step of your regimen. Glow Recipe sells a spatula scoop that is a handy dandy little tool for scooping and applying their masks or moisturizers. The mask comes in two sizes; a 25ml for $25 and a 70ml for $49.
I received a sample of the avocado ceramide recovery serum and my first impression is that it feels wonderful on the skin in combination with the watermelon toner. The consistency was like a very light lotion and it soaked into the skin so well. It was soothing. This product does not have an overbearing scent and is virtually scentless compared to the dreamy smelling watermelon line. Though that is the case, I still wholeheartedly approve of this product. This recovery serum is priced at $42 for 30ml.
Folks, when you try Glow Recipe, you are definitely going to GLOW all day. I would rate all the products a 5/5 stars not just for the actual skin glorifying results but also for the amazing, clean ingredients. I can’t help but to notice that Glow Recipe shares the same name with the G.L.O.W. organization, home to the Green News Guide. Wink Wink : ) The GLOW up is real so get right with the GLOWs or go straight home!
