Developing Research on How Fruits & Vegetables Can help to Fight COVID-19

Eat your Fruits and Vegetables” was probably a command that the average person was likely to hear growing up. I know i had an aunt who preached fruit and vegetables all the time and I’m grateful that it rubbed off! Be thankful for all the fruit and vegetable preachers in your life because they are offering sound wisdom. Certain folks scoff at the sight of vegetables and fruits and it could be due to taste or general dislike of them. Realize and accept that fruits and vegetables have so much to offer to you—healthwise!

The fact is that fruits and vegetables contain healing phytochemicals that are effective in fighting diseases and various other ailments. Numerous scientific studies support this fact. Phytochemicals are responsible for giving fruit, spices, herbs and vegetables their aroma, color and smell and are instrumental in maintaining and improving immunity. Diets full of meat and unhealthy foods will negatively impact overall immunity.

A study named the UK Phyto-V Covid-19 Study has been developed to understand how phytochemicals in fruits, vegetables and plants such as pomegranate, citrus, turmeric, and aloe vera can help COVID-19 symptoms to disappear. The study is being led by Dr. Robert Thomas of Bedford Hospital in the UK. Participants of the double blind placebo controlled trial take a supplement which contains a combination of phytochemicals such as curcuminoids (turmeric), apigenin (chamomile tea, celery, citrus), catechins and ellagic acid (green tea, pomegranate), quercetin (Apples, onions, red wine), hesperetin (citrus fruits), aloe emodin (aloe).

Dr. Thomas identified in a previous study that these phytochemicals reduced SARS’s ability to replicate. the focus of the current study will help to understand how these phytochemicals reduce symptoms of COVID-19. Participants consume the supplements for a period of 4 weeks or until their COVID-19 symptoms disappear.

CONFIRMED: POMEGRANATE EXTRACT FIGHTS VIRUSES and covid-19

Another research study determined that pomegranate peels are capable of inhibiting COVID-19 as they were previously found to be inhibitors of the SARS virus which is similar to Covid-19. This study was led by Dr. Relja Surucic who is affiliated with the University of Banja Luka in Bosnia. Pomegranate peel extract contains the phytochemical punicalagin which is what blocks the virus from entering host cells. According to Dr. Surucic, pomegranate extract IS also helpful in fighting viruses such as herpes virus, influenza virus, poxviruses, and human immunodeficiency virus.

THE Phyto V COVID-19 study is still recruiting participants to take part. If you are in the UK, have had a positive COVID-19 test result and are interested in participating in the study please visit:

There are a few other similar studies that are being developed in india, the middle east and spain.
The evidence produced from current scientific studies such as these goes to show you that nature really is the best remedy!
