Here at Green Lifestyle Organization we’re always hoping to see representation of people of color in all domains and arenas which includes but is not limited to green and environmental, corporate and business, entertainment and show biz, fashion, beauty, and etc. It is one of the reasons GLO was created because there just isn’t enough diversity in the green and environmental domain. As the BLM movement continues to shed light on inequities that black people and other POC are facing and as people become more vocal, changes are starting to materialize.
The Real Housewives of New York City will be entering its 13th season very soon. Bravo is shaking up the New York branch of its franchise by diversifying the cast with the introduction of a new black member.
Who knew that Bravo was seeking to diversify the lot? Bravo Andy why didn’t you call me? Hhahaahahh…just kidding! Bravo has actually engaged in segregation by keeping the Real Housewives Franchise all black (Potomac and Atlanta) or all white (Beverly Hills, New Jersey). It was time they put a stop to it. Garcelle Beauvais was the change for the Beverly Hills Franchise last season.
Why did it have to take 13 seasons for Bravo’s most popular series to have a black cast member in the New York franchise? I used to tune into the New York version during the earliest seasons when I was a wee bit and the cast was only made up of Bethenny, Alex, Luann, Ramona, Jill and later Kelly. I probably stopped watching when Bethenny announced she was leaving the show. I never understood why they had zero women of color in the cast. As diverse as NYC is, why were there no women of color? Way to go for painting the upper echelon of NYC in an inequitable light.
Eboni Williams, 37, is a lawyer from New Orleans and host of a talk show, “State of the Culture” on Revolt TV. She is the newest cast member and the FIRST black one of RHONYC! Here’s what she had to say:
“NYC is filled with successful and dynamic Black women. I’m excited to join this legendary franchise as the first Black housewife,” said Williams.
“Can’t wait to share a slice of life in this city that hasn’t been seen before. Anyone who’s aware of my work knows I don’t hold back. I’m going to keep it just as real here as I do everywhere else.”
These days, Bravo doesn’t appear to be looking for actual wives to be on the show. Eboni Kiuhnna is not married and states that she will not be “a typical housewife.”
Well Eboni…keep it real lady. Keep it reallllly real!!! Show them the NY they’ve never seen before! Now Eboni wasn’t actually born and raised in New York so technically she can’t be considered a native New Yorker. However, it’ll still be interesting to see the flavor that she’ll bring to the SHOW. Surely, people will want to see how she gets on with Luann, Ramona and the bunch!
