FDA Bans First FD&C Dye! Which Will be Next?

The FDA has moved to finally ban Red Dye No. 3 from use in food and drugs in America.  Red Dye No. 3 was first determined to be a cancer causing color additive almost 30 years ago.  Studies conducted using labs rats found that they became inflicted with the disease after consuming large amounts of Red dye No. 3.  Thirty years ago, the FDA officially banned Red Dye No. 3 from use in cosmetics but left the door open for it to be used as a color additive in food and prescription drugs.  By January 2027, the FDA has ordered that Red Dye No 3 must be removed from all food in the USA and by 2028--from all drugs. Food Manufacturers Shiver in their Boots Red Dye No. 3 has mostly been used in baked goods, sweets and candies.  It is used by prominent candy manufacturers such as Mars Inc (Skittles) and Just Born Quality Confections (Peeps).  Food Manufacturing giants such as Con Agra, McCormick, Heinz, General Mills and Pepsi Co will all have to find alternatives for ...

FUSION POWER COULD BE JUST AROUND THE CORNER!

Researchers at MIT and spinoff company, Commonwealth Fusion Systems, are working on a groundbreaking method for mimicking the sun’s energy. This method entails the use of fusion energy to generate electricity. The researchers will be constructing a reactor called SPARC, which, if successfully built, will allow for the powering of a plant that will utilize fusion energy. A successful construction of SPARC will also help to curb climate change in the future.
The reactor is only in the earliest stages of development and researchers AT MIT plan to complete it in the next three to four years. Commonwealth Fusion Systems CEO, dr. bob mumgaard, connected with NYT and expressed his goal for the creation of the company.

“We’re really focused on how you can get to fusion power as quickly as possible.”

It is Dr. Mumgaard’s hope that the company can develop a practical fusion device that will be able to mimick the sun’s energy, with the ultimate result of helping to decrease the global warming crisis.

Construction of a practical device that can create fusion energy is a very challenging area that no one has been able to successfully develop. Mimicking the sun’s energy while utilizing strong electromagnet technology is no small feat but mit researchers believe that their engineering creation can be completed. Commonwealth Fusion Systems hopes to be able to commercialize Fusion Power and make SPARC a gold standard within this domain.
