Shea Terra Organics Mongongo & Banana Hair Food Masque Review

If you haven't heard of Shea-Terra Organics, your skin, hair and body are definitely missing out on some luxurious and scrumptious treats.  Shea Terra Organics utilizes shea butter as a main ingredient in many of their products.  The ingredients used in the skin and hair products at Shea Terra are sourced from Africa and contain therapeutic and healing properties.

The Mongongo & Banana Hair Food Masque is a rich shea based conditioner.  The masque is 30% shea butter and this can certainly be felt when applying the masque to the hair.  Light orange in color, the masque has a lightly whipped consistency.  It's a thick creme and  It doesn't disintegrate too well.  This product was applied to thick, textured, curly hair over the course of three months.  The product has a tendency to sit on top of the hair.  Shea butter has very strong emollient properties and can be a really awesome moisturizer.  As much as we wanted to really love this product, it failed to happen.  Deep conditioners are necessary for thick hair that is prone to dryness.  Products that penetrate the hair shaft are very helpful for combatting dryness. The after effects of using the product did not provide the softer, more manageable hair that was hoped for. Perhaps it is the high percentage of shea butter in the product that prevented it from truly conditioning the hair.  The mongongo and banana hair masque may work for a hair type that's thin or fine. As for thicker, kinky-curly textures you'll probably find that this product won't do any justice to your hair.

The product's ingredients are pretty simple.  They are spring water, banana pulp extract, mongongo oil, vegetable coloring and a natural preservative.  According to Shea Terra's site, the product can be used as a pre-poo masque.  We did not attempt to use it this way.  You might find that the product works in your hair.  Take the chance and try it but be aware that it is mostly just shea butter. If you've found that your hair loves shea-butter then it can't hurt to try it!
